Reiki, a combination of the terms REI (spiritual power) and KI (great energy) forms a word to describe the indescribable: Universal Life Force Energy.

A twenty-two-year journey for me, thus far. Countless hours of immersion, training, workshops, audits, client work, session intensives, self-reflection, and—ultimately— TRUST, have led me to teach.

My first Reiki course was held in January of this year. It was a culmination point that the varying pathways of my life have merged into this delta of teaching, where I’ve assumed the role and title of Mentor rather than the traditional Master.

Reiki is a powerful and conscious energy to develop a relationship with — to call upon its wisdom and transfer energy requires an incredible amount of respect and experience… something I feel our culture has missed the mark in embodying. Master is misunderstood— as if I would ever stop being a student. Mentor feels more like a guide— like a torch bearer to lead others into new territory.

Reiki emanates from a much deeper history than the recent Usui Reiki Method in practice in the West this past century. Humans have been relating with universal life force energy for millennia. The name Reiki is but one label for something inexplicable and bound to our human/nature connection. 

Through an understanding of Reiki’s emanation through the Medicine Buddha Tradition, I make this offering with my full heart to convey what has been taught to me, what I have worked diligently to integrate these past twenty years.

I am aware of the harm in how Reiki has dissipated in the West, many experience profound relationships with their practitioner, whereas others feel misled by a poorly trained teacher or student.

As a white person practicing Westernized Reiki, I am committed to consciously unpacking my own experience of power dynamics and harm, appropriation, mish-mashing of Eastern philosophy, and the pseudo-science that has given Reiki a mixed-review reputation. It is important to me to be transparent about my journey in the alternative holistic community and the harms, gains, and lessons learned.

I am not a teacher who took a three-day course to receive a title, but an individual who has endeavored for decades to develop a relationship with Reiki and embody its cause: TRUST.
